Review: Azrael (2024)

E.L. Katz’s "Azrael" is a lackluster horror thriller with few true scares. The story centers on a young couple, Azrael (Samara Weaving) and Kenon (Nathan Stewart-Jarrett), living in silence to avoid creatures attracted to noise and motion. Their peaceful existence is shattered when they’re captured by a cult led by Miriam (Vic Carmen Sonne), with religious motifs woven into the plot. While Weaving shines as the lone survivor, the film’s repetitive chase scenes and underdeveloped characters, especially Kenon, leave much to be desired. Despite nods to horror classics, "Azrael" struggles to maintain suspense, with inconsistent monster logic and a muddled storyline failing to deliver real terror.
