Terrifier 3 review

"Terrifier 3" is not for the faint-hearted, but die-hard horror fans will find this holiday bloodbath to be a macabre gift that keeps on giving.

The film wastes no time setting the tone with a brutal prologue. It's Christmas time, and the scene unfolds in a seemingly peaceful family home. That peace is quickly shattered by Art the Clown, dressed as Santa, wielding an axe. This opener establishes the film’s ruthless logic: no one is safe, not even the kids. Some victims are completely innocent, while others, by horror movie standards, almost seem to deserve their grisly fate. Take, for example, the husband who callously tells his wife, “I have to be up in three hours, you handle this”—he doesn't stand a chance.

Is "Terrifier 3" a refined piece of cinema? Hardly. But that’s not the point. Pulling off this level of gruesome horror takes skill, and while many films promise to be gut-wrenching, few deliver for seasoned genre fans. "Terrifier 3" stands out, bringing the gore in full force. Art the Clown isn’t a psychologically complex killer like Patrick Bateman from American Psycho—he’s a demonic clown with a sadistic interest in using an array of weapons. Axes, chainsaws, bombs, hammers, even live rats—nothing is off-limits, and director Damien Leone relishes every graphic second of it.

What sets this film apart from its predecessors is Art's new sidekick: Victoria, a returning character from the first Terrifier. Once a victim, she’s now fully onboard with Art’s twisted antics, showing that sometimes, joining the killer is a survival strategy. The film even gives us a glimpse into their downtime: while Art quietly rocks in a chair staring out the window, Victoria relaxes in a literal blood bath.

"Terrifier 3" isn’t trying to be deep or thought-provoking, but for those who love extreme gore, it delivers in spades. Consider yourself warned: it’s a savage, gruesome ride, and genre fans won’t be disappointed.
